CHRISTMASTIDE: A CELEBRATION

CHRISTMASTIDE CD RELEASE

In December 2022, Harriet released her debut solo album, Christmastide, to critical acclaim. The album’s success led to her being featured on Scala Radio as ‘One to Watch’ in Penny Smith’s Drivetime show, as well as being included in their Christmas Playlist.

Recorded on the MPR label at the Musical Museum in Brentford, Christmastide is a collection of 16 traditional Christmas carols which Harriet arranged for solo pedal harp. Each carol has a distinct voice, showing Harriet’s versatility as a composer and her ability to ‘tug on the heart strings’ with each carefully chosen harmony.

In celebration of the album’s release, Harriet embarked on a 15 date concert tour around the UK and she also published the sheet music for each carol in two delightful volumes which are now performed by harpists around the world.

Here is a Christmas disc that is just that little bit different…..arrangements to which it is well worth paying attention.

She is a beautiful player and it is a delight to spend the 47 minutes that this CD offers.

Each arrangement has required apposite revision, judicious emphasis and a sense of colour…

The Truth sent from Above is infused with a sense of the folkloric, its rise and fall very effectively achieved by Adie in this lustrous performance.

This finely, warmly recorded festive disc features performances strong on dexterity, texture and colour in welcome and varied arrangements.

Apart from her renown as a performer, Harriet Adie is an active composer and a skilled arranger of rare inventiveness. …. Harriet avoids schmaltz and gives us arrangements that sizzle with pointillistic colour. There is a certain athletic leanness to the writing that emphasises the lightness and brilliance of the harp's sound, as opposed to dwelling in the bottom half of the instrument. The crystalline textures are just so..... Christmassy! …. I know what I will have on when I'm wrapping my Christmas presents this year - pour yourself a sherry and enjoy!
